These items may have parasites like lice, scabies, fleas, or mites. Bringing these things into your home can endanger you, your loved ones, and animals. Make sure to only bring fresh and trusted items into your home. You can always spray the piece down with pesticides before bringing it in, but to be sure it is just not recommended.
On the other hand, picking up an item from someone’s home can be a safe way to get free furniture. In the local classifieds people are giving away free furniture all the time. You can go to the home and see exactly what environment you are bringing the item from. At the end of garage sales people sometimes put out items for free that did not sell. If you grab it on the same afternoon the item is still fresh enough to be brought in.
